PHOTOGRAPHY
Unlike any other form of creation, photography is the one that is both expressive and effective. On one hand, it can be a way of personal expression of surrounding reality. On the other, in today's world of images, it is a potent medium capable of transmitting information and opinion. And while the first quality let us refer to it as an art, the second one makes it a document.
This duality of photographic image attracts me the most; and is what I am looking for in my own work.
"If your pictures aren't good enough, you aren't close enough."
Robert Capa
It is under my convinction that photographical image, as well as any other artistic creation, should talk for itself. It should speak with its own voice, making any form of explenation accessory. This especially concerns documental photography, which I found the most efficient way of photography to be employed.
"I have been a witness, and these pictures are my testimony."
James Nachtwey
Since the ability of photography to capture the real world is inexhaustible, it is easy to fall in triteness, especially in the digital age. For me personally, photography should be an ajar door: the image should testify the part of reality that could not be seen by everyone. It should be a testimony, finding its place between a whisper and a scream - between black and white.
